History

Clutha Health First began operation at 8.00 am on Tuesday 1st December 1998.

For the previous four years, HealthCare Otago had been signalling that they wanted to exit from rural health services, and concerned people from the community took up the challenge and formed community organisations in order to ensure that local provision of health services continued.

The current facility is owned by Clutha Health Incorporated, who lease the building to the Clutha Community Health Company Limited. The Clutha Community Health Company Ltd, under local management, operates Clutha Health First. Clutha Health First has contracts with the Otago District Health Board, Accident Compensation Corporation among others for the services that we provide. We are a non-profit company.
