Clutha Health First General Practice

Clutha Health First General practice, a Cornerstone Accredited Practice, was purchased by Clutha Community Health Company Limited in 2008, is part of the WellSouth Primary Health Network.

The premises were purpose built in 1998, as part of a local 13-bed hospital with inpatient / specialist outpatient, community and ancillary service facilities and significantly remodelled in 2013. The general practice suite includes five consulting rooms, four fully-equipped treatment rooms, two nurse clinic rooms, shared reception and waiting rooms, and offices for nurses, students and the practice manager.

The practice is staffed by experienced and vocationally registered General Practitioners, supported by six practice nurses. There are two medical officers assigned to the Clutha Health First inpatient facility. The General Practice has ready access on premises to more advanced secondary support services, such as x-rays and laboratory services. The practice provides external services to a 35-bed rest home, attached to the local hospital. There is another in the north of the town with 40 residential and 28 hospital level care beds that is also supported by the practice. A further General Practitioner worka independently in Owaka and Balclutha.

The Balclutha practice has approximately 7,900 patients. The average number of patients seen in a day by each Doctor is 30 – 35. Surgery hours are 9.00 am – 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday, with evening clinics being offerred from 6.00 pm - 9.00 pm.

All practices are fully computerised utilising a common database on the Medtech 32 computerised patient management system. Also available on site are district nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapist and social worker. A Mental Health Team is located next door.
