The Clutha Health First Maternity Centre is a primary birthing facility who has a reputation for providing one on one care to new parents in a friendly, quiet and ‘homely' environment, staffed by a small team of local qualified Nurses and Midwives.
We promote birth as a physiological process and aim to support you, your family and Midwife to achieve the best outcome for you and your baby. Research shows women are most likely to labour best in a place where they feel free, safe and private with Midwives whom they know and trust. Giving birth in a primary unit increases your chances of having a normal birth without unnecessary interventions.
We provide a holistic birthing enviornment with all the necessary equipment and expertise required to deliver safe care to women experiencing a low risk pregnancy and anticipate a normal birth, and offer women and their families a peaceful, safe and friendly atmosphere in which to begin your partenting journey.
The centre provides a low staff/women ratio to ensure that women can have quality time spent with them when needed. We also cater for fathers/support persons who wish to stay with the mother and baby.
The Clutha Health First Maternity Centre comprises of:
- Two private bedrooms with a shared en-suite
- One private bedroom with own en-suite
- Birthing room with pool and en-suite
- A lounge for you to relax in and share with your family/visitors with facilities for refreshments.
Clutha Health First was re-accredited for a further four year term as a Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) facility in 2011. This accreditation is part of a global strategy to revitalise world attention to the impact that feeding practices have on the nutritional status, growth and development of infants and young children.
If you have any questions or would like to know more about BFHI, please ask your Midwife or a Maternity staff member.
The Maternity Centre strives to provide a highest possible standard of care to women and their families in South Otago.
