Awanui Laboratories

Awanui Laboratories provides services to Clutha Health First and has so since it first began operation in 1998.

The onsite Laboratory provides a phlebotomy service, along with limited urgent testing. Much of the routine testing is performed at the main Laboratory in Dunedin with patient test results being reported back to the requesting doctors within 24 hours of specimen collection.

Pacific Radiology Ltd

Pacific Radiology provides publicly funded Xray and Ultrasound services at Clutha Health First for the residents of South Otago.

X-rays

This is acquiring an image of specific parts of your body using X-rays. A Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT or Radiographer) records the image. A Radiologist interprets the images and sends a written report to your referring Doctor by mail or email.

While many examinations are free to you when referred by a GP, any ACC injuries, or requests referred from a private provider do acquire additional charges payable by the patient.

Ultrasound

The body can also be seen by creating images that do not use X-rays, instead Ultrasound waves are used. This is the preferred way to examine babies before birth and often a number of abdominal and pelvic organs.

While many examinations are free to you when referred by a GP, any pregnancy or privately referred ultrasounds do acquire a charge payable by the patient.
